Meet NMRTC Twentynine Palms Junior Civilian of the 3rd Quarter: Meredith Jones
TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. — Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Twentynine Palms recently recognized Meredith Jones, an occupational health technician at Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms, as its Junior Civilian of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2026.
Jones, a native of Guilford, Connecticut, works within the directorate of public health, conducting medical surveillance health screenings and examinations for active-duty service members and civilian employees across Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms.
“We screen employees and service members to ensure individuals are fit to perform their jobs and monitor personnel exposed to hazardous environments to ensure long-term workplace safety,” said Jones.
Her work includes audiograms, vision screenings, spirometry and electrocardiograms, helping the occupational health department identify potential health concerns and support the readiness of the installation’s workforce.
“These exams directly support the mission by ensuring our warfighters and employees are medically ready to deploy and complete their duties across the installation,” Jones said.
Of her responsibilities, Jones said supporting the hearing conservation program is among the most rewarding. The program monitors personnel exposed to hazardous noise and provides education aimed at preventing occupational hearing loss.
“I find being part of the hearing conservation program rewarding because I help protect service members and civilian employees from preventable, permanent hearing loss caused by hazardous noise in the workplace,” Jones said. “Annual screenings and hearing protection education are important tools to actively preserve hearing, medical readiness and quality of life for our patients.”
For Jones, the importance of protecting hearing is also personal, having seen the impact of hearing loss within her own family.
“My mom experienced hearing loss from the use of chemotherapy and now relies on hearing aids. Her experience has shown me how important it is not to take our hearing for granted,” said Jones. “While her hearing loss was unavoidable, many work-related cases can be prevented with the proper precautions. I find it fulfilling to provide this support and care within my role in occupational health.”
Her studies in human services at Loyola University Chicago, along with previous experience in behavioral health, pediatrics and education, helped prepare Jones to work in public health and strengthened her approach to supporting patients from a variety of backgrounds.
Jones also has a personal connection to the Navy and Marine Corps through her family. Her maternal grandfather served in the Navy and fought in the Pacific during World War II, while her paternal grandfather served in the Marine Corps.
“Being able to support both branches here on this installation is very fulfilling to me,” Jones said.
For Jones, being named Junior Civilian of the Quarter is recognition of work centered on supporting the people who carry out the mission each day.
“It is an honor to support our workforce, those who make the mission possible, and it is also an honor to have my efforts recognized by my leadership,” Jones said.
Outside of work, Jones enjoys traveling, attending concerts, reading and spending time with her dog, family and friends.
For others working in healthcare and support roles, Jones emphasized the importance of recognizing the impact their everyday work can have.
