FLCY Bids Farewell to JPPSO-Japan Director Jerome Smith

Yokosuka, Japan (August 21, 2026) - Dozens of personnel from NAVSUP FLC Yokosuka (FLCY) Regional Services Department (Code 400) gathered for a potluck luncheon to bid farewell to Mr. Jerome Smith, Director of the Joint Personal Property Shipping Office (JPPSO) – Japan, honoring his three years of compassionate and dedicated leadership. NAVSUP FLCY Commanding Officer Capt. Tom Arnold kicked off the ceremony by presenting Mr. Smith with the Meritorious Civilian Service award, pinning the medal to his chest in recognition of his exceptional service. The celebration was held in a decorated break room featuring a large tribute banner adorned with Mr. Smith's photograph and the honorary message: “Your Impact Will Not Be Forgotten.” “Serving as Director of JPPSO-Japan has been one of the most rewarding assignments of my federal career.” said Smith, a McMinnville, TN native and a 20-year Marine Corps veteran. “Since arriving in November 2023, I have had the privilege of working alongside an exceptional team of military, civilian, and local national professionals dedicated to supporting our Service Members and their families.” During the ceremony, several military and civilian teammates shared heartfelt memories of working under Smith's leadership, with some speaking through tears in front of the gathered guests, including Smith’s wife, Robin. JPPSO – Japan manages and coordinates the movement, shipment, and storage of personal belongings for military service members, civilian employees, and their families during a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) moves across the region. “As Robin and I prepare to leave Japan, we are grateful for the friendships, experiences, and memories we have made during our time here. I leave FLC Yokosuka proud of what our team accomplished and sincerely thankful to everyone who made this assignment such a meaningful chapter in our lives.” Smith stated.
