Australia’s PM Leaves Residence After Bomb Threat Over Chinese Dance Group

(MENAFN) Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was briefly moved from his official residence in Canberra on Tuesday after authorities responded to a bomb threat reportedly connected to a Chinese performing arts troupe, according to reports.

The incident involved Shen Yun, a group that is banned in China and has scheduled a series of performances across Australia in the coming months.

As detailed in reports, local organizers for Shen Yun received an email warning that explosive materials had allegedly been planted near the prime minister’s residence. The message claimed the devices would be detonated if the performances proceeded as planned.

"Large quantities of nitroglycerine explosives have been placed around the Australian Prime Minister's Lodge, located on Adelaide Avenue in the Deakin area of Canberra, Australia," the message said.

"If you insist on proceeding with the performance, then the Prime Minister's Lodge will be blown into ruins and blood will flow like a river."

According to accounts, the threat was received Tuesday and immediately forwarded to the Australian Federal Police the same day.

As a precaution, Albanese was relocated for several hours while officers conducted a comprehensive inspection of the residence. Authorities later confirmed that no danger was found.

"A thorough search of a protection establishment was undertaken, and nothing suspicious was located," the AFP said in a statement.

Meanwhile, China addressed the issue, stating it firmly condemns violence in any form. A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry reiterated Beijing’s position, saying it "consistently opposes all forms of violent attacks."

"It must be pointed out that the so-called Shen Yun performance is not a normal cultural activity at all, but a political tool used by the Falun Gong organization to spread cult information and amass wealth," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said.

"In recent years, the so-called Shen Yun performing arts troupe's systematic abuse, illegal employment, and mind control of its staff have been repeatedly exposed."
