Blast at Chemical Factory in India Leaves Eight Dead

(MENAFN) At least eight people have been confirmed dead, and 26 others have sustained injuries, some of them critically, following a reactor explosion at a chemical plant in the southern Indian state of Telangana, local authorities reported Monday.

The explosion occurred in the Pashamylaram industrial zone of Patancheru, located in the Sangareddy district, approximately 48 kilometers northwest of Hyderabad, the state's capital.

Police officials have expressed concerns that the death toll may rise as some of the injured are in critical condition.

It was reported that around 150 employees were present at the facility when the blast happened.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the reactor exploded during normal operations, sparking a significant fire and prompting a swift response from emergency teams.

Television footage captured thick black smoke billowing from the factory site, adding to the scale of the incident.

Senior police officer V. Satyanaryana informed the media that firefighting teams are working tirelessly to contain the blaze.
